The whole system in plain English, written by the people who pick up when you call. One program, four parts, a couple of big decisions. Here's all of it.
Medicare is the federal health program for people 65+ (and some younger people with disabilities). It's built from four parts — and nearly every decision comes down to how you combine them. Parts A and B together are called "Original Medicare."
Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing care, hospice, and some home health. Most people pay no monthly premium — they already paid through Medicare taxes while working.
Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and medical equipment. Part B carries a monthly premium — and together, A and B make up Original Medicare.
Private plans that bundle Parts A & B — usually with drug coverage — into one plan, often adding dental, vision, and hearing. Many have low or $0 premiums, but they use provider networks.
Stand-alone plans that help pay for medications. Skip drug coverage when you're first eligible — without other credible coverage — and you can face a penalty that never goes away.
Original Medicare covers about 80% of your medical costs, with no yearly cap on what you could owe. Most people close that gap one of two ways — and this is the decision we spend the most time teaching.
Neither one is "better." The right answer depends on your health, your doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget — which is exactly what a free consultation figures out.
Medicare runs on windows. Miss the right one and you may wait months for coverage — or pay penalties for life. Here's the calendar in plain terms.
It opens 3 months before your birthday month and closes 3 months after. This is when most people should sign up for Parts A & B and choose how to complete their coverage.
Every year, anyone with Medicare can switch plans for the year ahead. Plans change their costs, networks, and benefits annually — which is why we review every client's coverage each fall.
If you're in a Medicare Advantage plan that isn't working out, you get one switch — to a different Advantage plan, or back to Original Medicare.
Moving, losing employer coverage, and certain other life events open a personal window to make changes outside the normal calendar.
We represent multiple carriers, so our recommendation is built around you — not a sales quota. Here's the full shelf.
All-in-one plans that often include drug, dental, vision, and hearing coverage. We compare every plan in your county, side by side.
Pairs with Original Medicare to cover the gaps — with the freedom to see any doctor nationwide who accepts Medicare.
We run your exact medication list through each plan to find the lowest true annual cost — not just the lowest premium.
Coverage for the things Original Medicare doesn't touch — as stand-alone plans or built into an Advantage plan.
Pays you cash for hospital stays, to help cover the copays and deductibles your health plan leaves behind.

A cash cushion against the big diagnoses that can drain retirement savings fast.
